The state had last month announced the dates to hold conference of District Collectors and Police Officer on March 5, 6 and 7. The conference will see the attendance of who is who of the state administration’s top brass and all department secretaries and the entire top brass of the police force.
The first day of the conference will have an integrated session of bureaucrats involving all the senior IAS, IPS officers and the Collectors and District Police Superintendents.
The second day, as per the schedule, will be an exclusive event for the IAS officials and the last day is reserved for an exclusive session involving IPS officers.
The annual conference, which is revived after a gap of four years, can help take up exhaustive review of the entire state administration machinery. The plaguing issues, development metrics prescribed for every district, law and order, among other things will be taken up during the three-day conference. The meeting, at times, had helped officials to air their views directly to CM which is otherwise improbable.
Since the entire state administration top brass would be present during the meeting, it would be easy to get resolutions.
The last conference of Collectors and Superintendents of Police (SPs) was chaired by the then chief minister J Jayalalithaa in December 2013. Prior to that, the conferences were held in December 2012 and in November 2011.
The annual event went off the state’s calendar after Jayalalithaa was relieved off her Office on being convicted in the Disproportionate Assets case. Deputy CM O Panneerselvam replaced her as the CM for the interim period. Even as she returned as the CM for her second consecutive time in 2016, she died of a cardiac arrest in December.
