Around 3.20 am, three persons hurled a kerosene bomb targeting the district party office on VKK Menon Road in Gandhipuram. It hit the flex board and exploded after falling to the ground. The miscreants flung another bomb at the party office board, which also exploded, and then managed to escape from the spot on a two-wheeler.
Two Armed Reserve (AR) policemen, who were deployed on protection duty at the party office, unsuccessfully tried to chase them. Thereafter, cops scrutinized images recorded in the CCTV cameras fixed at the party office and managed to trace their identity soon.
The three men were later arrested and identified to be part of a group of TPDK members, who visited the commissioner office a day before seeking action against BJP leader H Raja for his controversial remarks.
The three arrested persons are Balan (37), Jeevanantham (30) and Gawtham (27). They confessed to have carried out the attack as a retaliation to Raja’s remarks.
