Ambulance driver murdered in Puducherry

An ambulance driver was allegedly hacked to death by a five member gang at Ginjee Saalai near the government general hospital on Tuesday night.

According to police, Maran (55), a Congress worker who is the owner-cum-driver of an ambulance went to Chennai yesterday on a trip. He came back to Puducherry around 21:30 hours last night. After parking the vehicle in a shed, he was sitting in a shop when five persons armed with weapons including sickles came to the spot on two bikes and hacked him to death. He died on the spot.

Grand Bazaar police seized the body of Maran and sent it to the government medical college hospital for post-mortem.

Police registered a case and started investigation.

Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General of Police Rajiv Ranjan met the relatives of Maran, consoled them and assured the immediate arrest of the culprits.
