All the mourners consisting of activists from political outfits and other organisations walked all the way from her mother’s house in KK Nagar to the burial ground at Palakkarai in silence. Heavy police protection had been provided along the rally route and also at Usha’s residence.

Earlier, BJP state president Tamilisai Soundararajan paid homage to her and urged the government to sensitise the police to treat the public in a humane way. “This is not the first time that poor victims have succumbed to police high-handedness,” she said and urged the state government to give proper training to the personnel to handle general public respectfully. She also sought strict action against the police inspector responsible for the death.

Meanwhile, sources informed that inspector Kamaraj has been given protection in the Tiruchy Central prison as he feared attack by inmates, who were shocked over the death of Usha. It was said that he got threatening signals from the inmates. Later, he was shifted to high security cell and taken to prison hospital as he complained of complications.
