‘Accept B.Sc. Radiotherapy candidates’ applications for job'

Passing orders on a plea moved by ten candidates including M Hemalatha of Dharmapuri district and R Divya of Chennai, Justice T Raja said, “Considering the fact that the petitioners have studied the said course at Madras Medical College (MMC), which has been recognised by the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), Government of India, Radiological Safety Division, to conduct the three year Radiotherapy Technology course, this court has no hesitation to direct the concerned authorities to consider the application to be submitted by the petitioners as they are well qualified.” 

The petitioners had submitted that all the candidates have completed Radiotherapy Technology at MMC and have registered in Department of Employment and Training under professional and executive’s employment exchange. 

While so, the Medical Services Recruitment Board notified 25 vacancies for the post of Radiotherapy technician all over Tamil Nadu. But the qualification prescribed in the notification confined to candidates possessing two years Diploma Course in Radiotherapy Technology conducted by the Board of Para Medical Education under the Directorate of Medical Education, Government of Tamil Nadu. 

Expressing shock over the qualification prescribed in the notification, the petitioners submitted that they are much more qualified than the one prescribed in the notification. They further noted that they are the eligible candidates for the post as per the curriculum, but unfortunately, have been left out in the notification. 

Refusing to accept the government’s submission that the petitioners were over qualified and hence are not eligible to be appointed for the said post, Justice Raja in his order reiterated, “The petitioners have completed the said degree course in accordance with AERB requirements. When AERB itself has recognised Madras Medical College and Government General Hospital, Chennai, affiliated to Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, it goes without saying that the petitioners are also entitled to apply for the said post.”
