The ‘Ramrajya Rath Yatra’ organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) is on a pan-India trip and the Yatra from Kerala is entering Tamil Nadu via Sengottai in the early hours of Tuesday. The Yatra is set to proceed to Virudhunagar, Madurai, Rameswaram and would go back to Kerala on Thursday.
Many parties have opposed the Yatra from entering Sengottai and have decided to block the Yatra from proceeding in Tamil Nadu. Under these circumstances the Tirunelveli district administration had imposed prohibitory orders under section 144 throughout the district from Monday to Friday, to prevent any untoward incident.
Tirunelveli Collector Sandeep Nanduri took the decision based on the recommendations from Tirunelveli SP Arun Sakthi Kumar. The district administration had also issued warnings that people who try to block the Yatra would be arrested immediately.
