The Himalayan journey started after his resounding speech at Dr MGR University where the actor said he would provide ‘governance like MGR in Tamil Nadu if elected.’

Throughout his Himalayan pilgrimage, the Kaala star has been spotted at several places, obliging for pictures with fans and the natives of the area. There was much speculation that this trip had political connotations, but Rajinikanth has insisted that it had nothing to do with his impending campaign.

Though he waved at reporters in Chennai airport, the 67-year-old was willing to talk to the press outside his residence at Poes Garden. “I travelled to Himachal Pradesh, then Jammu, Rishikesh and met my Babaji as well. I landed in Delhi on Tuesday morning. This was a trip that’s been almost a decade in the making – I’m really glad I finally got to do it. I feel much more peaceful now,” he said.

Commenting on the ongoing strike in the Tamil film industry that has seen the halting of production and the screening of new movies, Rajini said he has always maintained that his position was against going on strikes and that work should always go on. He requested all the parties involved to resolve the issue amicably and call off the strike.

Also addressing rumors that he met leaders from the BJP during his trip, Rajini vehemently refuted the claims, saying, “I have been hearing about how the BJP has been behind my decisions. But I will tell you that only one person is behind me - and that is God. Then the people.”

He also denied the news that he is set to launch his party and announce the name and unveil the flag on April 14. “There are still appointments to be made in several districts for the Rajini Makkal Mandram and work is going on.”
