Salem Sankara Mutt stoned, 3 arrested
Three Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam (DVK) functionaries were arrested by Salem police on Tuesday for hurling stones on the Sri Sankara Mutt at Maravaneri in the district.

According to the police, three persons identified as P Krishnan, 38, G Rajendran, 37, and Manoj, 30, pelted stones damaging the wall lamp of the mutt. A banner placed in front of the mutt was also damaged in the incident around noon.
Based on a complaint by the mutt authorities, the Hasthampatti police registered a case under section 3(1) of TNPPDL Act and nabbed the three persons. While Krishnan was the organiser of Salem District DVK, Rajendran was the president and Manoj the vice president of the party unit in Nangavalli Town.
Inquiries revealed that the trio had pelted stones on the mutt to register their protest against disfiguring of a Periyar statue in Pudukottai district.
