Soon, toll-free number for academic guidance

The call centre will provide information and suggestions on art, literature, culture, science, technology, medicine, commerce, Employment etc. The centre, which can be reached through the toll-free number, will function 24 hours around the year. 

“The call centre will also guide students to participate in the state and national level competitive examinations for higher education,” a senior official from Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation, which was asked to finalise a company to provide technical help for establishing the call centre, said.

He said the scrutiny committee, which had concluded that the Telangana-based management and research institute was responsive to all the terms and conditions, has recommended opening of the price bid for further evaluation. According to an official, well trained educationists and experts will be appointed at the call centre to provide psychological advice to the teenage students. 

“They will also help students with learning disabilities “, he said adding that the students will also be informed about the schemes announced by government and their benefits. In addition, the call centre executives will also provide information regarding the stipend and loan facility extended by state and central governments to students besides extending suggestions on the issues relating to “generation gap” between students, teachers and parents. 

Stating that the call centre is likely to be functional by the coming academic year, the official said the centre will have minimum five seats initially and it might increase up to 10 seats based on the call volume and requirement.
