Theni Fire: Toll rises to 18 as one more succumbs

According to police, Jaya Sree, 32, of Samayapuram in Tiruchy district was undergoing treatment at the Ganga Hospital here after suffering 70 per cent burns. She was airlifted to Coimbatore from Madurai for advanced treatment on March 12. 

“She suffered 63 per cent deep burns and seven per cent superficial burns. She also suffered burns in the lungs due to inhalation of hot fumes. As part of the treatment, dead tissues were removed and skin grafted a few days ago. 

Despite best efforts, she died around 9.50 am on Thursday,” said S Raja Sabapathy, chairman, Department of Plastic Surgery, Hand and Microsurgery and Burns at the hospital.
