Ram rath yatra: Four cases booked

Four cases were booked against bikers, who accompanied the controversial Ram Rajya Ratha Yatra, in Tirunelveli and Kanniyakumari districts on Friday and Saturday.

The Ram Rajya Ratha Yatra entered the state via Sengottai in Tirunelveli district and left for Kerala via Kanniyakumari district. When the Ratha entered Tirunelveli district, prohibitory orders under section 144 was imposed in Tirunelveli district, on Tuesday. 

Under the orders only four bikers could accompany the Ratha in its Yatra but in Sengottai, more than 300 bikes accompanied the yatra. Also, while returning to Kanniyakumari via Thoothukudi, many bikers accompanied the Ratha. 

Sengottai Police has booked cases against 300 bikers and summons were issued to the violators. 

According to Police officials, the registration numbers of the bikes were videographed and based on the evidence, the case had been booked. 

A similar case was also booked by Tirunelveli Taluk police for violation of prohibitory orders, but the total number of bikes is yet to be ascertained. 

In Kanniyakumari district, two cases were booked by Kottar and Tuckalay police. Kottar police booked cases against bikers for causing nuisance to the public and against BJP Nagercoil Town President, Nagarajan and others for organising a public meeting without permission. 

Thuckalay Police booked a case against VHP District Secretary, Ajee and others for unlawful assembly during the Ratha Yatra, on its way to Tiruvananthapuram.
