He said Tamil Nadu was of late bearing the brunt of natural disasters and extreme heat was also a harsh natural phenomenon. People experienced skin rashes, giddiness and dehydration in summer. Hospitals had reported patients with reddening and pain in of the skin, accompanied with acne. To avoid such problems, skin should be washed with soap properly and cotton garments should be used, he said.

Fatigue was another major problem. People, especially those working outdoors, should be wary of dehydration. They may vomit or faint. In case of fatigue, people should be given free air and should be given rest. Water should not be given if vomiting persists, he said.

Sunstroke is a slightly severe condition faced due to prolonged exposure to sunlight. In such cases, the pulse level would go down and people tend to faint. In case of sun stroke, the victim should be rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment and delayed medical attention can prove fatal, the collector said. In case of medical emergencies, people had been asked to dial 108, he said.
