Differently-abled petitioners and senior citizens, who come to submit grievance petitions and for various works to the Tirunelveli Collectorate are now forced to walk from the Kokkirakulam bus stop to the campus. Though the distance between the bus stop and main building of the Collectorate is less than half-a kilometre differently-abled persons and elderly find it difficult to cross the road due to heavy traffic.
Hence, to make it convenient for the aged and differently-abled to reach the Collectorate office, the district administration launched a free battery-operated four-wheeler service.
Tirunelveli Collector Sandeep Nanduri, who launched the service at the Collectorate on Monday, said that it would be of great help to senior citizens and differently-abled, who were facing hardships to reach the collectorate amidst traffic and scores of people occupying pavements and some portion of the road. Around 1,000 to 1,200 persons visit the Collectorate every Monday and on other days around 200 individuals come for various works.
