When P Kalimuthu (57), Commissioner In-charge, was in his office in the morning, a man called Karikal Cholan met him and introduced himself as the General Secretary of Nationalist Congress Party. He demanded that Kalimuthu allot him a shop at the new bus stand here.

After Kalimuthu said he can’t decide on it, Karikal Cholan reportedly abused and assaulted him.

On hearing the noise, employees rushed to the Commissioner’s room, though Karikal Cholan had fled by then.

Subsequently, the employees gathered in front of the Corporation office and staged a demonstration. They blocked vehicular movement demanding the arrest of Karikal Cholan.

On information, the Town West Police rushed to the spot and held talks with the agitating employees. Upon assurance by the police, they dispersed from the spot.

Meanwhile, Kalimuthu told the media that Karikal Cholan insisted on a shop in the new bus stand, despite his repeated explanation that the shops are obtained through proper tender allocation. “Karikal Cholan hurled obscenities at me and warned of dire consequences and attacked me,” said Kalimuthu.

Police registered a case against Karikal Cholan based on a complaint by Kalimuthu. Further investigations were on.
