The brothers, Sasikumar (32) and Gunasekaran (29) of Ezhilnagar in Tirupatthur, 85 km from Vellore, doused themselves with kerosene and created a flutter on Vaniyambadi Road.

After some passers-by foiled their attempt, the brothers claimed that they had borrowed Rs 2 lakh from a lender to buy autos. When they defaulted on one payment, the lender had sent his henchmen to their house and threatened them with dire consequences if they failed to pay the money immediately.

On information, policemen arrived at the spot and tried to take the duo to the station for questioning, but locals prevented them and demanded action against the money lender. Police pacified the public stating that the brothers were being taken only for questioning.
