Congress, DMK MLAs booked for manhandling official
The Kanniyakumari Police on Thursday registered a case against four Congress and DMK MLAs on charges of threatening and manhandling the Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies (JRCS), Kanniyakumari district.

Alleging irregularities and favouritism by officials in the first phase of the cooperative society elections in the district, Congress MLAs J G Prince (Colachel), Rajesh Kumar (Killiyoor) and S Vijayadharani (Vilavancode) and DMK MLAs T Mano Thangaraj (Padmanabhapuram), N Suresh Rajan (Nagercoil) and S Austin (Kanniyakumari) allegedly barged into the JRCS office and picked up an argument with Nadukkattu Raja, JRCS, on Wednesday.
The dispute that began around 10.45 am, continued until 8 pm and videos of the unruly behaviour of some of the MLAs, who allegedly hurled abuses at Nadukkattu Raja, went viral on social media. The MLAs were widely slammed for their behaviour.
Subash, an office assistant in the JRCS, was attacked by the party cadre accompanying the MLAs and he sufered injuries.
Following the incident, a complaint was lodged by Nadukkattu Raja against the MLAs with Nesamony Nagar Police and based on it, the case was registered under various sections.
An inquiry will be held with the accused persons by following norms, said police.
Nadukkattu Raja said he discharged his duties without bias and so had brought the incident to the notice of the Commissioner and Registrar of Cooperatives Department. The MLAs should be arrested, he said.
