Thousands gathered near the airport and Dhinakaran accompanied by Ayyakkannu arrived at the spot. PR Pandian joined them later. While addressing the cadre, Dhinakaran said, “We are protesting in a democratic way for the Cauvery Management Board. We will extend support to all the protests call by the farmers and participate in them to win our right. We will not accept any projects including methane and hydrocarbon extractions that affect agriculture and farmers.”
Meanwhile, PR Pandian said that the CMB is the only solution that would solve the Cauvery dispute.
Otherwise, agricultural lands in Tamil Nadu would turn into a desert. He hailed Dhinakaran for fighting for the farmers by staging a series of protests including a hunger strike.
Ayyakkannu, speaking at the siege, said that the Centre has been treating the farmers as the second rate citizens. “We are the primary citizens who fulfill the food requirement of this country. So the Union government should form the board to save the farmers from the crisis.”
After the speeches, the gathered party men started moving into the airport premised to stage a protest. However, the police prevented them from doing so. When the cadres tried to overpower the police, they were arrested.
