According to police, the bomb was hurled at the post office located near KS Theatre in Linemedu.

The incident came to light only when staff arrived to clean the premises and found a broken bottle at the entrance. On information, the Annadhanapatty police, led by Inspector Kumar, reached the spot and conducted enquiries. However, there was no damage to property or the building.

Though the exact motive behind the act was not known immediately, police suspect that the miscreants might have targeted the post office, as a mark of protest against the state and central governments over the Cauvery Management Board (CMB) issue.

Police are checking the footage of CCTVs fixed in shops and houses located near the post office to identify the culprits. “We have got some vital clues. A search is on to nab a few suspects,” said a cop, privy to the investigation.
