3,500 special buses to ply for Tiruvannamalai Chitra Pournami

On the request of the Tiruvannamalai district administration, the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) has planned to operate nearly 8,600 trips through 3,500 special buses for the annual Chitra Pournami festival. This was revealed to the reporters by Collector KS Kandasamy on Friday

Kandasamy, who chaired a meeting in this connection, explained the various facilities planned for the lakhs of devotees, who are expected to arrive for the festival which falls on April 29. 

He said that the Arunachaleswarar temple would be provided with medical, toilet and drinking water facilities. Arrangements would also be made to ensure that devotees were able to enjoy darshan without problems. He added that 25 temporary four-wheeler parking lots and urinals in 50 locations would also be set up. 

While ambulances would be stationed at 15 locations, two-wheeler ambulances would also be ready near the Ammini Amman and Tirumanjanam gopurams. Medical facilities would be set up at 15 spots, he noted.  

Similarly, the nine temporary bus stands would have drinking water and toilet facilities, he said and added that TASMAC outlets within the town would be shut during the duration of the festival.

Buses would be operated from Chennai, Tiruchy, Vellore, Villupuram, Bengaluru, Salem and Kancheepuram, he said.
