4 temple staff issued memo for not providing prasadam

In the wake of complaints raised by Hindu Munnani members that prasadham was not offered to devotees in the Ramanathaswamy temple at Rameswaram for a week, the temple management has issued a memo to four temple staff seeking explanation from them, said Joint Commissioner (JC) of the temple, Mangaiyarkarasi, on Sunday.

Hindu Munnani cadre, on Friday, staged a protest in front of the kitchen in the Ramanathaswamy temple, where prasadham was being prepared and claimed that it was not being given to the devotees for one week after ‘Uchikala Pooja’. They claimed that according to Hindu tradition, ‘Uchikala Pooja’ is offered to the Lord in all temples at 12 pm and after prayers ‘neivedyam’ (offering) would be done, following which the devotees would be provided prasadham.

Mangaiyarkarasi carried out an investigation and found out that both cooks in the temple were on leave for one week and so prasadham could not be given to the devotees. She also found that no temporary cooks were arranged by the officials and so took action against them for not making alternate arrangements.

Mangaiyarkarasi said that now alternate arrangements have been made and quality prasadham was being provided to the devotees. She also said that the devotees had appreciated the taste of the prasadham offered in the temple and are rushing to get it in the last couple of days, said Mangaiyarkarasi.
