Standing in front of the Tirunelveli railway station, the partymen raised slogans condemning central government for not forming CMB and betraying the farmers. Even as the protest was going on, Kamaraj of Tirunelveli poured kerosene and tried to self-immolate. When he tried to light a match stick, Kamaraj was stopped by fellow AISMK partymen, who poured water over him. He was taken away from the site, following which the protest ended.
Meanwhile, a 42-year-old man who jumped from a moving bus last week demanding Cauvery Management Board (CMB) be formed succumbed to injuries in Tirunelveli Government Hospital on Monday.
The man identified as Selvam, a driver from Moondradaippu village in Tirunelveli district, had jumped from a moving bus in Tuckerammalpuram near Tirunelveli on April 5. According to Police, Selvam was in an inebriated state and was discussing about the CMB issue with fellow passengers.
He raised loud slogans against Central government for delaying the setting up of CMB and then jumped from the bus. He had sustained heavy injuries in his head and was rushed to Tirunelveli GH for treatment. However, he had succumbed to injuries on Monday morning.
