Similarly, Naam Tamilar Katchi members besieged the toll plaza on Tiruchy-Thanjavur bypass road. Following the protests, vehicles passed through the stretch without paying the toll fee for more than two hours.

Meanwhile, ryots from several villages in Thanjavur district on Monday came together and staged a protest on the Kallaperambur lake on Thanjavur-Budalur road.

Pointing out that the lake spread over a sprawling 670-acre used to be fed by a Grand Anaicut canal, the protesters said the water body has not received enough flow for many years now. This has affected cultivation on 2,662 acres that were dependent on the lake.

The farmers said that they could get relief only if the CMB was constituted. Such a measure alone could ensure the quota for TN and thereby the lake would also get its usual supply from the Grand Anaicut.
