Co-op polls: HC extends status quo till April 23
The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Thursday extended the status quo on election to Cooperative Societies in the state until April 23.

With this, it also extended the stay on conducting fresh polls and announcing the results of the earlier elections.
Oddanchatram MLA and petitioner R Sakkarapani had said that the Election Commissioner for Cooperative Societies, in a notice on March 5, announced that the election would be held in several phases. However, rules were not followed in the election process and in many places, officials were allegedly forced by members of ruling party to act according to their wish, he said.
So, an independent investigation was required to ascertain the truth and the court should stay the ongoing elections, the petitioner had said.
