Geit, a Belgian national settled in India, in his petition, had stated that with the help of volunteers and trekking enthusiasts, he had formed CTC in 2013 and had been organising treks in various parts of the country.

Divya Muthukumar and Nisha, also part of CTC, had decided to organise a trek to Kozhukumalai and Kurangani hills as part of Women’s Day celebrations and sought the help of two experts, Arun Prabakar and Vipin Damodaran.

However, 27 people were part of the trekking team, and CTC had obtained permission from the Forest Department, but in the accident, the papers were destroyed. Geit further stated that he was not involved in this particular trip and prayed for anticipatory bail.
