Officials said that the bearings which supported the bridge spans have to be replaced as they are worn out. As a result, the new Palar bridge would be made a two-way traffic facility till the repair work concludes.

Vehicles bound for Chennai from Andhra Pradesh  would be diverted at Chittoor bus stop to reach Tiruvalam, from where they would join the National Highway at Wallajahpet, while vehicles bound for Tirupathur, Ambur and Vaniyambadi would be diverted via Gudiyattam from the road junction near Katpadi railway station.

Heavy vehicles would not be allowed to use the new bridge during the mentioned period, officials added.
