Truck driver killed as govt bus, lorry collide in Kovai
Traffic came to a halt on the busy Mettupalayam Road here for more than an hour on Friday following a deadly mishap involving a TNSTC bus and a lorry that resulted in the death of the trucker and injury to many passengers

According to police, the bus, driven by Karthik (29) of Bhavani, was heading to Coimbatore from Mettupalayam. While nearing Thudiyalur ‘pirivu’, the bus collided head on with the tipper lorry. In the impact, lorry driver Pandian, 42, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), though he died on the way.
Some injured passengers, identified as Pavithra, 23, Rajalingam, 44, Julia, 19, Ramya, 21, Marathal, 50, and Kirubashankar, 23, were taken to a private hospital in the neighbourhood for treatment, while two other women were sent to the CMCH.
The bus and lorry, which got damaged beyond repair, were removed from the spot with a help of a crane. Due to the accident, traffic was disrupted on the busy stretch in the morning.
The Thudiyalur police registered a case.
