The event was inaugurated by Collector K Veera Raghava Rao, who said that through such initiatives, the SHG members would come to know about the market needs which would help them in making products according to the requirements and increase their revenue substantially.

As many as 24 SHGs participated in the event, including 16 from Madurai district. The remaining eight were from the districts of Erode, Kancheepuram, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Villupuram. Jute bags, sanitary napkins, wooden toys, fancy key chains, purses, handbags, clips, footwear, traditional food items and earthenware were among the items on sale.

This year, four college bazaars have been held and the revenue generated was Rs 10 lakh. “The three-day event in the college would also prove beneficial to the SHGs,” said the Collector.
