Questioning the credibility of the panel constituted by the Governor to go into the Nirmala Devi case, the RK Nagar MLA said Purohit’s act had crossed limits and set a bad precedent. The Governor’s act is suppressing the principle of self-autonomy, he commented.
Bid to destroy evidence
Leaders from various political parties have alleged that Governor Banwarilal Purohit was trying to destroy evidence in the Nirmala Devi case.
PMK founder S Ramadoss said, “Banwarilal has no rights in constituting enquiry committee and such an act will violate constitutional norms.”
R Mutharasan, state secretary of CPI, said, “We already reacted to this issue. Holding him responsible, Governor should be sacked by the Centre. Since this is a sensitive issue, the government should order a proper enquiry.”
Recall Purohit, demands Stalin
DMK working president M K Stalin on Wednesday demanded that the Centre recall Governor Banwarilal Purohit who had claimed to have not met professor Nirmala Devi ever. Speaking to the media, he said, “Some disturbing reports have been coming out. Hence, I suggested a High Court-monitored CBI probe. It could be seen from the unilateral inquiry the Governor had ordered... to protect himself that he is unfit to be a Governor.”
