Buses with sleeper, toilet to be introduced soon: Minister
Thousands of passengers on the long distance buses run by the state government will soon have an option to travel on latest sleeper buses, which will have facilities including toilets.

The transport department is planning to introduce new modern buses with sleeper and toilet facilities, said state transport minister MR Vijayabhaskar on Monday.
Addressing the media after flagging off the 29th road safety awareness rally on Monday morning at Chepauk, he said, “Both Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and his deputy O Panneerselvam have already assured introducing highly advanced buses that will have sleeper and toilet facilities.
Moreover, the department is taking measures to buy new buses”.
The Transport department have planned to buy electric buses this year and has sanctioned 3,000 new buses. Further, it has already bought 2,100 buses that are scheduled to hit the roads from May 31.
Speaking on the road safety norms that should be followed, the minister said that the motorists should follow traffic rules, stressing that wearing helmets and seat belts were mandatory.
“Mobile phones should not be used during driving and no one should drive when they are drunk. Further, all the vehicles should follow the traffic rules,” he said. The minister also distributed handbills to the public, exhorting them about the need to follow traffic rules.
Earlier, the Transport department conducted a rally which started from Chepauk and went through Wallajah road and Anna Salai and ended at War Memorial. Transport department officials, police officers and officials from Highways department, MTC and TNSTC, and others participated in the rally.
