Along with the Korean team, headed by Moon Ho Lee, a water expert, Karunas met district collector S Natarajan on Monday and briefed the latter about his plans.

Addressing media reporters after the meeting, Karunas said Ramanathapuram district is beset with water scarcity throughout the year, with the situation turning worse in summers. As tanks and wells have dried up, people are forced to wait for hours to fetch a can of water and because of this people face severe hardship daily, he said.

To solve this problem, Karunas said the Korean team would identify water hot spots underground with the help of modern technology. After such spots were identified, steps would be taken to set up deep bore wells. “With this initiative, around 10 to 20 lakh litres of water could be supplied every day to the people,” he said. Karunas said he had informed SP Velumani, Municipal Administration and Rural Development minister, about the project. “The project will be implemented after Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami gives the permission,” he said.
