“The DMK had allotted Rs 300 crore for the drinking water scheme to the district, but that has been stalled after AIADMK came to power,” he said. “The gutka scam tainted Health Minister, who is from this district, is not for public health but for leading a commission agency for killing the public,” Stalin said. He also criticised Vijaya Baskar for establishing the upgraded GH in an area which is out of the reach of public and they are not able to make use of the facility during emergencies, he said.

Pointing out that the DMK had formulated several projects for solving the drinking water problem in the district, Stalin said, the horse trading AIADMK government has stalled them. “So, the people are suffering without even drinking water. While the DMK government had allotted a fund of Rs 300 crore for Cauvery-Vaigai-Gundaru project of which a Mayanur barrage has been constructed and the remaining works have been stopped for no reason,” he added.

Meanwhile, Stalin charged that both the AIADMK and the BJP have conspired to deny medical education to the rural students and implemented compulsory NEET.

Blaming the Centre and state for not forming the CMB, Stalin participated in the human chain protest organised by the opposition parties led by the DMK.

Farmers to block trains from May 1

The co-ordinator of the federation of Tamil Nadu Farmers Associations PR Pandian on Monday announced that the farmers would begin a train blockade from May 1, two days before the Supreme Court takes up the Cauvery dispute case on May 3. In a statement here, Pandian alleged that the BJP is trying to divert the Cauvery protests through directions given to some of its leaders and said the protests must be intensified to defeat the BJP’s conspiracy. He said the farmers would begin a rally from Vedaranyam from April 25 and the rally would reach Tiruvarur on April 29.
