TNPSC’s interview process eludes candidate for 5 yrs

Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) had organised a non-interview selection process for group II last year which she took by opting for the transgender category as permitted by the Commission.

Anushri claims to have cleared the written exams exceeding the cut-off marks.

She was called for the gender verification process during which TNPSC officials had admitted to her claim of being a transgender which was supported by her transgender ID card and name change notification published in the gazette, among others.

After this stage, TNPSC had begun certificate verification which is part of the filtration process for the non-interview posts. Anushri, however, is yet to a call letter for certificate verification. She took up the matter with the officials who informed her that there was no reservation for her category.

“My rank is under 69,000 in general category and my standing in the community ranking would be well below 50,000. For the gender binary, they can stake a claim for the community and opt for communal reservation. We do not have that option despite being born in the Dalit community and we are being classified as transgenders,” Anushri noted.

She also observed that it has become almost routine for her to knock on the doors of the government for the past five years now, despite clearing the exams and not being called for certificate verification.

Anushri hopes Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami would redress her grievance understand the plight of her gender’s woes. She has also presented a petition to the CM’s special cell at Secretariat.
