Stating that Vijayabaskar and Rajendran should demit office for CBI to conduct a fair and independent probe in to the scam, Stalin who wrote to the union home secretary and CBI director in connection with the case sought a special investigation team (SIT) comprising honest and experienced officials from other states to uphold justice in the most important case of Tamil Nadu.
Earlier, speaking to media persons at DMK headquarters Anna Arivalayam after the HC pronounced its verdict, Stalin referred to the two-year extension given to DGP Rajendran by the government and said the CM who offered promotion and extension would do well to demit office himself, which would do benefit the people.
Responding to state fisheries minister Jayakumar’s argument dismissing resignation pending inquiry, Stalin said the duo had become ineligible to continue in their respective posts as soon as doubts were raised over their involvement in the scam.
Asserting that Gutkha sale would continue till this regime continues, the Leader of Opposition accused not only the health minister and the DGP, but also the chief minister and a few other ministers and officials of taking bribe.
“As soon as we come to power, we will unearth the truth in this case. We are planning to enforce Lokpal Act after forming government. Whoever is involved in the Gutkha scam would be arrested and lodged in prison,” Stalin added.
