Over 60 from Tamil Nadu qualify for civil service

More than 60 candidates have successfully qualified the civil service examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. The results of the exam were declared on Friday.

While Keerthivasan, hailing from Trichy district, stood first in Tamil Nadu by securing 27th rank, L Madhu Balan, a resident of Perambur in Chennai, came second in the State by getting 71st ran at the all India level.

Madhu Balan said his uncle, who is a civil servant, was the motivation for him. “I prepared for two years. In addition, the Tamil subject helped me to secure good marks at the all-India level”, Madhu Balan told DT Next.

Stating that he wanted to become a neutral officer if he got selected for IAS, the Chennai candidate said, “My aim will be to work for women empowerment”.

In Tamil Nadu, a little more than 100 candidates appeared for the UPSC exams, which was held here.

A total of 990 candidates -- 750 men and 240 women – at the national level have been recommended by the commission for appointment to various central government services, UPSC said in a statement here.
