Speaking to the media after visiting the Kathiramangalam ONGC pipeline leak spot, Jayaraman said due to damage in the ONGC pipelines, the agriculture land in the area has been affected and it is time that the ONGC vacated Kathiramangalam and its officials arrested for their carelessness.

He said the Thirupananthal union in Kathiramangalam was the worst hit and one litre of water contains at least 1.7 mg oil in the region and as many as 224 children have been affected due to the water contamination.

The government should initiate immediate steps to save the people of the region, he added.

The protest against the ONGC will continue in the area until they withdraw from the region, he said.
