Addressing a massive crowd, the Chief Minister pointed out that the several decades-old issue has still been persisting only because of the lethargic approach of the DMK.

“It was MGR who demanded to constitute a board to share Cauvery water. Subsequently, our late leader Jayalalithaa led the legal fight to get Cauvery water. Even she had observed 80 hours of relay hunger strike for retrieving the rights of TN in Cauvery water. Due to her relentless efforts, the Union government had published the final verdict of Cauvery tribunal in the Gazette which M Karunanidhi failed to do,” he said.

Attacking DMK working president MK Stalin, Palaniswami termed his rallies for the CMB as mere drama. “He (Stalin) failed to put pressure on the Centre when DMK was in alliance with Congress to form the CMB, but now he is pointing fingers at us. AIADMK MPs have stalled the Parliament for 24 days for Cauvery rights. What has the DMK done for delta farmers,” he asked.

“I, as CM can meet the Prime Minister anytime. But, we waited to meet the PM as a delegation. And now Stalin has been criticising us for it,” he noted. Palaniswami also alleged that Stalin has been conspiring to split the AIADMK to topple the government. “His actions show that he has lost his mental strength,” the CM said and took a dig at the dynasty politics being in force in the DMK. “People will never accept this always,” he cautioned.
