Order in 18 MLAs’ case soon, says HC

The Madras High Court on Saturday disposed a plea seeking to direct the Election Commission of India (ECI) to conduct elections to 18 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu, which fell vacant due to the disqualification of the MLAs in the seats.

The High Court also noted that the orders in the disqualification case of the 18 MLAs will also be passed soon. The first bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice Abdul Quddhose also refused to initiate suo motu contempt proceedings against disqualified AIADMK MLA Thanga Tamilselvan for his alleged remarks against the order of the court dismissing the pleas  seeking disqualification of 11 MLAs, including  deputy Chief Minister O Pannerselvam and 10 other MLAs.
