CPM blames Sterlite for spike in cancer
The presence of Sterlite Copper is constantly increasing the cancer deaths in Thoothukudi and so the plant should be closed immediately, demanded CPM Polit Bureau Member G Ramakrishnan in Kovilpatti on Sunday.

Ramakrishnan inaugurated a library and then a marriage hall of a party functionary in Kovilpatti and following it, while addressing reporters said that officials and Ministers, who are linked in the gutkha scam, should immediately resign. Both officials and Ministers who have obtained bribe from the gutkha company have been named in the documents seized from the company and there are ample proofs for their involvement. He also said that corruption is flourishing in TN.
When asked about Sterlite Copper issue, he replied, “Sterlite is responsible for causing cancer in and around Thoothukudi. So, the state and Centre should take immediate steps to close it permanently.”
