While flaying the Centre for pushing the project, he also accused Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami for not opposing the scheme. In a statement here, he said the project would endanger the Mullaiperiyar dam, the water resources in the Western Ghats, natural environment and agriculture in the district from where he was elected to Parliament two decades ago.
Recalling that the state government had refused permission for the protest earlier and his party obtained the permission from the Madras High Court, he said the two governments had ignored people’s opposition. While condemning the state government, he charged that it is following a subservient attitude towards the Centre. He insisted that the Centre should abandon the project.
He also appealed to the party cadre and general public to take part in the protest to protect the natural resources of Theni district.
