‘Liquor shops to be closed by 2021’

The case of Cauvery Management Board (CMB) is pending in the Supreme Court and only the apex court can take the final decision, said state Minister for Information and Publicity, Kadambur Raju, in Kovilpatti on Thursday.

While addressing reporters, Kadambur Raju said that the suicide of the 17-year-old is saddening and his death will make drunkards realise their mistakes. State government had allotted Rs 28 crore to spread awareness about the health hazards of drinking liquor and by the end of five years of their rule in 2021 there will no liquor shop in the state, said the Minister. 

Speaking on the CMB in Supreme Court he said, “I cannot comment on court proceedings.” 

He also said that the CM Edappadi K Palaniswami will visit Kovilpatti on May 11 to inaugurate the second pipeline scheme and to distribute welfare measures. The initial works for the function started on Thursday.
