USD 6 million collected for Harvard Tamil Chair: Minister
Minister for Tamil Official Language and Tamil Culture and Archaeology Ma Foi K Pandiarajan said here on Thursday that a fund of Six million USD has been raised and handed over to the Tamil Chair of Harvard University which would be headed by a professor from Singapore.

Speaking to reporters here, the Minister said, the state government had started the fund raising for the Tamil Chair with a sanction of Rs 10 crore and the total collection came to around six million USD. It has been handed over to the university, he said.
In order to develop the Tamil research programmes, a MoU has been signed between Tamil University and the Department of South Indian studies of Harvard University which would facilitate research on Tamil Language and culture, he said.
Earlier, the Minister went to visit the temples around Kumbakonam wanted to have a sprinkling of water from Mahamaham tank but the entire tank was locked and so he could not go near it and worship as he wished. He was offered a bottle of water. He sprinkled the water onto him and his wife and left.
