Speaking to the media after appearing in the Chief Judicial Magistrate court in Coimbatore following the summons issued to him over the CBI’s closure of the case due to lack of evidence, Vishnupriya’s father M Ravi said, “I will fight until my death to get punishment for those behind the death of my daughter. I don’t have any plan to drop the case.”

Ravi said he will decide on his next course of action on receiving the CBI’s report. He was summoned by the court to register his opinion over the CBI’s closure of the investigation.

Vishnupriya, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Tiruchengode Division in Namakkal district, who was probing the murder of Dalit youth Gokulraj, was found hanging in her quarters on September 18, 2015.

Following the death of Vishnupriya, Ravi alleged she was forced to take the extreme step due to harassment by her superiors.

Vishnupriya’s friend and batchmate K Maheswari, who was then serving as a DSP at Keezhakkarai in Ramanathapuram district, also alleged that she committed suicide unable to bear the harassment by higher-ups.

Subsequently, the state government transferred both the Gokulraj and Vishnupriya case to the CB-CID.

It was then again transferred to the CBI following a court order.

Nearly three years after her death, the CBI submitted a report on April 16 stating its plan to drop the case due to lack of sufficient evidence.

Anitha Ravi, counsel for Ravi, said the CBI investigation into the death of Vishnupriya has not been satisfactory. “We will raise our objections on receiving the report submitted by the CBI to the court,” she said.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Malarmannan adjourned hearing on the case to May 24, when Ravi is likely to file his objection against the CBI’s closure of the case.
