Ansari-EPS talks kindle hopes of TTV loyalists’ return

The recent meeting between Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Manithaneya Jananayaga Katchi leader Thamimun Ansari has revived hopes in the AIADMK that the MLAs supporting Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran could be weaned back to the ruling party.

Besides, the MLA’s demand for allocation of rice for mosques to prepare gruel for Ramzan fast was immediately met with a positive response with the Chief Minister ordering the allocation of 5,145 metric tonnes of rice for the mosques throughout the state.

Speaking to the media about the meeting, Ansari lauded the Chief Minister’s cordial approach and said he has promised to consider most of his demands.

The MLA, who was hitting out at the AIADMK government’s friendly approach towards the BJP government, had recently toned down his attack since the AIADMK party organ itself had started attacking the BJP on issues like Cauvery and NEET.

Ansari is one of the three AIADMK allies who was elected on the ‘Two Leaves’ symbol and was functioning along with the other two allies Thaniyarasu (Kongu Ilaignar Peravai) and Karunas (Mukkulathor Pulipadai).

All the three were backing Dhinakaran and appealing to the ruling party to patch up with the AMMK. At present, the AIADMK has the support of 110 MLAs in the 234-member Assembly.

In a related development, the AIADMK organ ‘Namadhu Amma Puratchithalaivi’ alleged that Dhinakaran was secretly monitoring all his supporters and preventing

them from returning to the parent organisation.

An article in the party organ said Dhinakaran keeping a watch over the legislators is causing considerable frustration and anger among them.

It said the MLAs with Dhinakaran were ready to return to the parent organisation since the popularity of the Chief Minister and deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam have been rising.

There has been more resentment in the AMMK since Dhinakaran was offering posts only to those who were close to him ignoring merit and hard work of others.

The AIADMK organ also said the legislators with Dhinakaran were not able to function independently due to continuous monitoring by those close to the deputy general secretary.

The article also predicted large scale exodus from the AMMK to the parent organisation.
