According to the weatherman, the southern and central regions of the state have been receiving rains over the last few days. Satellite models have indicated the strengthening of Westerlies as a precursor to the advent of the Westerly regime for the next few months.

“As far as Chennai is concerned, depending on where the wind convergence happens, certain areas will benefit from thunderstorms. However, models indicate Chennai will continue to record 35 and 36 degrees Celsius temperature for the next two to three days,” said a weatherman. There is a high possibility of a some thunderstorm activity in interior Tamil Nadu and the Nilgirs and parts of Coimbatore could see moderate thunderstorms for two more days, he added.

A weather blogger here said, “While models indicate that interior Tamil Nadu could receive some rains around the Western Ghats in the west interior and southern parts, overall a relatively quiet day is likely over most of Tamil Nadu.” The strengthening Westerlies would give an opportunity for most of Kerala, parts of south Tamil Nadu and hilly areas of west interior TN to receive moderate rains, he added.
