According to police, the victim, a 17-year-old girl, was found dead with her throat slit at her grandmother’s place in Kanjanaickenpatti on Thursday.
On receiving information, a police team led by Omalur Deputy Superintendent of Police (in-charge) Annamalai and Theevattipatty Inspector Sambath rushed to the spot and held enquiries.
It was found that the girl’s uncle Veerasamy, a daily wager, had murdered the girl after she turned down his sexual advances.
Subsequently, Police launched a hunt for Veerasamy, who went missing. They nabbed him from a hideout on Thursday night.
The girl, whose parents had died several years ago, moved into her grandmother’s house in Kanjanaickenpatti three months ago, where her unmarried uncle was also staying.
The accused confessed to police that he had repeatedly compelled the girl since her arrival for a physical relationship. However, she refused to consent.
The girl also informed her another grandmother (on the mother’s side) in Mallur and conveyed the alleged torture given by her uncle. The elderly woman arrived from Mallur on Thursday to take the girl to her residence.
“However, when the two women were away, Veerasamy again forced the girl to have a relationship. As she resisted, the accused slit her throat using a sickle and fled away from the spot,” police said.
