It may be recalled that several complaints were received during a conference of the community held in Vellore last month that transgenders from Tiruvannamalai were coercing people to give money.
As many as 70 members of the association came to Vengikkal on the outskirts of Tiruvannamalai town, where transgenders live in large numbers and advised members of the community to shun the practice.
However, the Vengikkal transgenders did not allow the visitors to talk and attacked them with weapons in which members of both sides were injured.
While 24 transgenders were admitted to the Tiruvannamalai Government Hospital, nearly 40 association members demonstrated in front of the Tiruvannamalai taluk police station demanding action against the attackers. Police have registered a case and are investigating.
