6 arrested for abduction of entrepreneur

Gudiyattam town police on Wednesday arrested six persons for abduction of a local entrepreneur and receiving ransom from his family.

The arrested, identified as welding shop owner Murthy (39) and his assistant Babu (34) from Gudiyattam, and four others from NR pet in Chittoor (Andhra Pradesh), had on May 6 kidnapped Sekar (60) of Gudiyattam at gun point and demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore from his family.

After money was paid, the abductors freed Sekar, who lodged a police complaint. During investigations, call logs of Sekar and his wife revealed that the abductor was a person named Murthy. Murthy during inquiries told the police that he wanted to take revenge on Sekar as he had abused him for not delivering grills as per his orders. He and his friends kidnapped Sekar to NR pet in a car via Ranipet where he was assaulted. The accused released him after receiving the ransom.

A car, a two-wheeler and Rs 1.35 lakh were seized from the arrested group. A search is on for four others in connection with the case.
