BJP cadre try to attack Ayyakannu in Vandavasi
BJP workers attempted to attack Ayyakannu, the president of National South Indian Rivers Inter-Linking Farmers Association, who was distributing handbills against genetically modified seeds, at Vandavasi in Tiruvannamalai district on Thursday.
Tiruvannamalai
Ayyakannu, along with supporters, began a 100-day drive to spread the ill-effects of genetically modified seeds on March 1 from Kanniyakumari. He arrived in Vandavasi after explaining the dangers of the GM seeds at Cheyyar. When he was distributing handbills near Vandavasi bus stand, local BJP cadre stopped him and demanded to know on what grounds he was campaigning against the Central government, leading to a heated argument. However, police stepped in and removed BJP cadre from the scene. It may be recalled that Ayyakannu was also involved in an argument with Sakthi Sena cadre in Vellore on the same issue.
