CM inspects Ashok Leyland’s swanky new model buses
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Transport Minister M R Vijayabaskar on Wednesday inspected two new model buses manufactured by Ashok Leyland.

Addressing the media, the minister said, “The new buses were brought for inspection and our CM was satisfied with them. We will soon operate buses that will have features like good speed governors, emergency exits and quality doors. Moreover, all such buses will have Global Position Systems (GPS) and we have already created an app-based provision for the convenience of passengers, who can track the arrival of the buses,” he said, adding that the seats of the new buses will have a provision to recline by 10 degrees.
Vijayabaskar pointed out that the government sanctioned 3,000 buses in the budget this year and it would soon float a tender for buying the vehicles. To a question, he said, “All ageing buses will gradually be replaced with new ones and the 5,000 buses will have facilities like toilets and sleeper facility on a par with omni buses. Further, the state government has sought financial assistance from the union Road Transport Ministry for procuring more buses.”
Earlier in the day, the transport minister along with police and RTO officials conducted inspection of school vehicles, under the South and South-West Chennai region. “A total of 129 school vehicles from 49 schools reached the Nandanam Government Arts College and RTO officials inspected the vehicles and background of the drivers,” said a statement.
Transport Commissioner Samayamoorthy, Collector V Anbu Selvan and other officials were also present.
