Interacting with reporters after paying floral tributes at Rajiv Gandhi memorial in Sriperumbudur, state Congress president Su Thirunavukkarasar said the party would hold agitations in all district headquarters on May 24 condemning the Centre for hiking fuel prices.

Referring to the international crude price, which ranges from Rs 70 to 75 now, Thirunavukkarasar said, “Fairly speaking, petrol and diesel should be sold at Rs 50-55 per litre in the country, but the Centre has been regularly hiking the price, which is inching closer to Rs 80 per litre.” The union government has been mopping up revenue and allowing private parties to make enormous profit by hiking fuel prices, which is feared to touch Rs 100 per litre, the TNCC chief alleged.

On the vexed Cauvery dispute, the state Congress chief welcomed the peace offer made by Karnataka chief minister designate HD Kumarasamy and advised Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami to meet his Karnataka counterpart and resolve the issue amicably.

“It is welcome that Kumaraswamy has sent feelers to find an amicable solution to the issue,” Thirunavukkarasar said, a day after DMK working president and Leader of Opposition MK Stalin suggested that Palaniswami establish friendly ties with the new chief minister of a secular government to be formed in the neighbouring state to find an amicable solution to the issue.
